Commodore’s Welcome
May 2009
Dear Shorewood Yacht Club Members:
A warm welcome from your 2009 Membership Council. We look forward to another great boating and sailing season at SYC. It’s our hope that you will be able to join your fellow club members in our various on-the-water and clubhouse social events. A special greeting to our new members. Please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Membership Council for information or assistance- our contact information is in the directory section of this handbook.
A number of social events are scheduled throughout the season, under the direction of Wendy Mielke, Vice Commodore-Social. Please see the 2009 Social Calendar for dates; you’ll also receive email notifications prior to each event. Bring the family and join your fellow members at these great parties (and meet some new friends also).
Another way to get involved with other members is to participate in one of the scheduled sailing races throughout the season. Whether you are a power boater, novice sailor, or experienced off shore sailor, the SYC races are an excellent way to learn or enhance your sailing skills, compete for trophies, and have a lot of fun in the process. Even if you don’t own a sailboat we welcome your participation as a crew member or race committee member. John Mielke, Vice Commodore-Race is available to answer any questions you may have.
Our club newsletter, The Waterline, is distributed via email several times throughout the season. Genny Messmer, our club secretary and publicity coordinator, edits this excellent publication and is always looking for articles, personal stories, and photos from our members to include in upcoming editions- please contact her at any time.
The Council continues to work in partnership with Mike Maloney, the owner of the Club. Mike provides great customer service to our members and is always extremely helpful and responsive to our various requests. He is always looking for ideas to enhance the operation of the marina and the clubhouse. We all share the same goal- to make Shorewood Yacht Club the premier boating and sailing organization on Lake Minnetonka.
See you on the water.
Jack Kemme, Commodore
